            VS

Be fore we compare these two new kids on the block, lets learn more about them, shall we? Both proteges of very popular superstars - Kanye West and Jay-Z - these two are very different from each other.

Jcole

Born Jermaine Lamar Cole, Jcole is a lyricist of note. He is signed to his mentors record label Roc Nation (2009). He has spawned hit songs such as " Can't get enough" featuring the sexy Trey Songz, "No body's Perfect" featuring the on-point and sexy Missy Elliot and "Work it" which I found offensive at first...the track is too good to stay mad at. Cole released his debut album in 2011 " Cole World: The sideline story" referring to his long awaited jump into the industry after being signed for two years and not releasing anything. His music focuses on the story and lyrics; the beat is secondary yet carries the hook beautifully. Honestly he's my favourite.

Big Sean

Born Sean Micheal Anderson, Big is a flow-master; he has mastered the art of dance-rap. Guy is on another level with radio hits left right and center. He was 'discovered' by Kanye at a radio station in Ditroit and signed to his G.O.O.D music label in 2007. Since then he has had the forsight to build a strong following by releasing mix-tapes, three in total. The first "Finally Famous: The Mixtape" was released in 2007,  " UKNOWBIGSEAN" was released in 2009 and featured some established artists, "FInally Famous Vol3: BIG" was released in 2010 before he finally gave us a debut album " Finally famous". His album gave us hits like  " My last" featuring Chris Brown, "I do it", " Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay" featuring Kanye West and "Dance (A$$)" with Nicki Minaj. He has collaborated with one of my favrite artist from the Maybach empire Wale on a song called " Slight work".

Both artist have had many hits on the hitlist, but we find that Big Sean is leading the club scene with his beat concious music that makes you wanna move ultimately. lyrically Jcole wins this bout but Big Sean wins the swag race. What do you think?

Giving words power

I was in the kitchen when my little brother comes up to me and says " So N*gga and K*ffir are brothers?", I wasn't shocked - dude asks a lot of questions like this - I was just diseapointed that he already knew these words without their history or meaning. I sat him down and we thought on it for a minute ; I didnt know where to start, do I tell him about racism and oppression first or respect and anti-ignorantness? I couldnt decide so I just delved right into racism and words used to subjectify, label and oppress, I told him that it goes both ways, that any one of any race can be a racist if they are prejudists. By the time I had finished explaining the book by Steve Biko ' I write what I like' he still looked confused and he asked, " So these words only hurt people who care too much about them? Why dont we just pretend it never meant what it did before?", I almost cracked up, dude is right; we give weight to these words. By being overly sensitive about ...
