A reflection of our society

The population of our University largely represents the state and ratio of the country's population, with this in mind, let us ponder on the elections that took place recently. It was made clear to all students through print and social media what it was that was expected of them in this process yet the majority were not sure of what to do when faced with the ballot paper. For most the elections went past without them even participating ; it seems most students simply do not see the point of voting, as if they feel nothing will change. It is in the hands of the parties involved who would like to be "voted into power" to show the students that they can make a noteble change in student life , thus creating interest in the outcome of the voting.I am no political fundi, but, is it not true that the point of appointing leaders is to see changes and progress in terms of relevant matters? Just my opinion.

Battling Cancer : In support of Cancer awareness

I am a weapon of his design A bow, I bow to no man. I quiver, not in fear, it is an exhibition of my strength. Crafted by eternal hands Who knew from the first moment of my life - who I was, who I am and who I would be. Cut from a sappling of the yew tree I hum a proud song, I exhibit my beauty. On this fine work of art, there is no space for erosion. I refuse it. and yet, And Yet , AND YET You cling dearly to me. You multiply and conquer There is no room for the both of us. No room to breath or rejoice. There is no space, its you or me - and I choose me, I want me. You show no prejudice Your choice of tyranny has no boundries My mind, my bosom, my life giving uterus you are parasite, you are hardship. The bow gathers its strength The yew wood strains its limbs the string is pulled back, ready to spring. Ready to shoot forth missiles of mass happiness, These aim to help you understand. To help you, my loved ones , ...

Trey and Usher fooling nobody

what is going on with Usher and Trey songz? It seems the two are either copying eachother or writing very similar songs. I first noticed very obvious similarities in their music when, after Ushers "climax" was released Trey came out with "Heart attack", the lyrics were not very similar but the premise, video and  music were. Now we cannot ignore the 'coincidence'; Usher released "Dive " and Trey has come out with "Dive in" this time the only real difference in the two songs are their videos in that in Ushers video he and his lady-friend are on a boat in the sea and Trey is suppossedly caught in a love triangle in a house by a pool. Even the lyrics are soooooo similar with both crooners refffering to a part of the female anatomy being 'so wet' goodnesss!!! But of course you should be the judge of this foolery. The road is as long as you are patient.

There are many obstacles that pounce upon the unsuspecting potential achiever, many of which are self-inflicted ( unfortunately ), this can be overcome. A lesson I am subtly taught every Monday and is long forgotten by Saturday morning. I have yet to keep in mind that this is a world of "do-ers" that not doing is against the trend and considered anti-social, I rather often remind myself that being genuine involves acting out of instinct and not prescription. It is this idea of your ideals being in conflict with what exists  outside of your 'world' that could be a possible hurdle in your journey of self-realisation. One must understand that without this conflict, one would not be an individual; not being as the status quot depicts should never be a bad thing. Be your own level of acceptable and excellent, as is popular to say "do you". The most simple solution that most of us were given by headmasters in Friday morning assembly speeches, or the word e...

Africa and her africans

We as Africans are not divided, we are just not united. We strive to be more western, more ‘international’ when it is our own customs and ideals that are and always will be our future and survival. It is with the help of the writers Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde that I will write this piece, this story that deserves to be told. The unassuming wise-words that have sprung from the mind of Mr.Twain and Wilde are what inspire the writer in me, but it is the African spirit and tenacity that fuel my aspirations. We start with Mr. Oscar Wilde who says, “The only duty we owe history is to rewrite It.”, a relevant statement at this point in the African journey.   For many African States it has been a hard and turmuilous journey to secure and maintain freedom, made even harder by external influences that have succeeded in fuelling conflicts within these newly formed states. From the eras of chieftaincies and kingdoms, Africans have been able to assimilate into and engulf other cultures wit...
